Music is a fundamental part of Capoeira and is
what helps make it unique. The musical side of
Capoeira involves the playing of traditional
instuments, such as the Berimbau, the
Atabaque and the Pandeiro.

As well as the playing of instruments, traditional
brazilian songs are sang. The combination of
music and song is what helps to create the Axé
(energy) needed for the Roda.

The speed and character of the jogo (game) are generally determined by the many
different rhythms of the berimbau (Music >> instruments >> berimbau), a one-string
musical bow, which is considered to be the primary symbol of this art form.
The berimbau is complemented by the pandeiro (tambourine), atabaque (single-headed
standing drum)and the agogo (double bell). Inspiring solos and collective singing in a
call-and-response dialogue join the hypnotic percussion to complete the musical
ambience for the capoeira session
